Anthropic's LLM vs ChatGPT: Key Differences and Uses

Anthropic’s LLM vs ChatGPT: both provide outputs, but their way of providing it is different. While ChatGPT is spread worldwide, Claude AI is held in high regard and is popular among developers. According to data shared by AI Business Weekly, ChatGPT’s market valuation is $825B, and Claude AI’s market valuation is $965B. Both are valuable AI assistants, but stand out differently for different uses; learn more in depth by reading the blog.

Anthropic’s LLM vs ChatGPT: Key Differences

Core Philosophy & Training

Claude AI is built using Constitutional AI. Imagine if AI considered reviews given by humans; it would depend on a particular perspective. I might learn to say whatever most people believe is true rather than understanding why something is good or bad.

What Constitutional AI means is that it follows a set of principles like “be helpful and honest,” “don’t help with anything dangerous,” and “respect people’s privacy.” Then the AI does something clever: it reviews its own answers against those principles. It writes a response, asks itself, “Does this follow my rules?”, and if not, rewrites it. It’s like a student who checks their own homework against the grading rubric before handing it in.

On the other hand, Built as a broad consumer and enterprise product ecosystem designed for conversational fluency, creative versatility, and extensive feature integration.

Context Window & Document Handling

Claude AI has deep long-document analysis, that means it is good at reading longer texts. It can scan a book, a PDF, a research paper, a pile of reports and summarize it, compare two sections, and also find two opposite sides. It has a massive context window of up to 1M tokens. 1M means almost 7 million and above words. Therefore, you can hand over your whole project to Claude AI for review instead of giving it in pieces.

After the new models launched by OpenAI, GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, the context window has gone up to a 1,050,000-token context window and 128,000 max output. However, inside the consumer ChatGPT apps, limits depend on your plan: reasoning models offer around 256K tokens on Plus and 400K on Pro, while fast default chat models use a smaller capacity.

Features & Ecosystem Tools

Suppose you ask Claude to generate code related to any programming language; two panels open. The left panel is where you chat with the AI, and the right panel is where the AI displays the code. Artifacts is the feature that makes it possible. In this way, you won’t lose your conversation at the same time you will be able to view and edit your output side by side.

Claude AI also has Claude Code.  Claude Code is a tool that can directly access the files and folders located on your system. You don’t have to upload them to the chat interface. Mostly, developers prefer using this feature for more technical workflows such as scanning a codebase and examining project files situated on local storage.

There is one more tool called Cowork, which is best suited to perform non-technical tasks. It is capable of organizing files, creating spreadsheets from the information present in documents, and putting together or summarizing the scattered notes in a file.

You can ask it to create images (“a watercolor of a cat on a bike”) right inside the chat. Native means it’s built in, not a separate tool. One caution: DALL-E was OpenAI’s original image model, but as far as I know, ChatGPT moved to a newer image generator built into its main model. The source may be using an outdated name, so treat “DALL-E” as a loose label for “it makes images.”

Claude vs ChatGPT: Performance and Benchmark Comparison

Image Creation

The Prompt

This is how ClaudeAI generates images. Not even a bit close to reality. On the other hand, if you give the same prompt to ChatGPT, it will create an image that looks close to reality and not cartoonish.

Between ChatGPT & Claude AI For Coding?

I asked both Claude AI as well as ChatGPT to generate a Tic-tac-toe using Python code.

ChatGPT AI offers an option to run the code, whereas Claude AI doesn’t. Code can be copied from both AIs.

Why I Switched To Claude AI From ChatGPT

ChatGPT was launched into the market before Claude AI, i.e., on November 30, 2022. So, I was introduced to ChatGPT first. I used the AI tool mainly to generate content. I would use ChatGPT to explain a concept to me in layman’s language, write an email for me, to check the grammar of my blog, and to give feedback for my blog.

However, now I have completely switched to Claude AI if I want to understand a concept. Why? Because Claude AI explains each part thoroughly. For example, I asked both ChatGPT and Claude to simplify the concept of an LLM (Large Language Model).

This is how ChatGPT replied:

This is how ClaudeAI gave me response:

Now, both Claude AI and ChatGPT gave a response, but I prefer Claude AI’s explanation. Claude AI’s explanation not only covers all the details but also maintains technical accuracy. On the other hand, ChatGPT has simplified the topic too much. You might find the concept easy to grasp through ChatGPT. But it eliminates the structural mechanisms of how the technology actually operates.

Nevertheless, I would not suggest you completely ignore ChatGPT. In my opinion,  it is still best to write an email, paraphrase a single line (heading, or a quote), find synonyms for a word, and do creative writing.

For example: I asked both ChatGPT and Claude AI to write an email; both responded in different ways, but both emails could be used.

ChatGPT’s generated email:

Claude AI’s generated email:

Now, both the AI tools generated emails in their own way. But, you can use any of the two. While the email generated by ChatGPT is short and concise, Claude AI’s generated email is a bit confusing. An email should mention the main purpose behind sending it clearly, without using more words than necessary.

Best Use Cases of Claude AI & ChatGPT

ChatGPT Uses In Real World

Get Insights From Images

You can upload an image to ChatGPT and ask what the photo depicts. Suppose you have uploaded an image of a natural disaster that took place many years ago, and you don’t have any idea about the exact dates, the country, the name of the disaster, and much other information about it; you can ask ChatGPT to pull out information for you.

For example: I uploaded an Image about a disaster and asked ChatGPT to examine the picture and describe the incident and what is actually going on. Give the facts along with dates. In response, ChatGPT gave this information:

You can see ChatGPT not only gave me the timeline of the Tsunami that took place in 2011 in Japan, but also gave me the death count, people injured, missing, and the number of buildings that got destroyed. Now, if people want more data, they can chat back and forth with the AI tool to get their respective answers.

Drafting Emails

ChatGPT creates clear and concise emails. It can create professional emails as well as personal ones. You just have to give a prompt about what is the purpose of the email, and what all things should be mentioned in it. ChatGPT will create an email accordingly, maintaining the standard format. It will mention everything, from the opening, subject, body, and regards; you just have to copy the email and paste it.

Creating Itinerary

ChatGPT can create a travel itinerary for you if you give it a prompt. For example: I asked ChatGPT to create a 3-day itinerary for 3 adults, and it replied to me like this:

ChatGPT not only planned what to do in those three days and which places to visit along with where to eat, it also mentioned the budget . If you mention the exact dates of when you are heading for the trip, ChatGPT can also customize your itinerary.

ChatGPT Image Creation

ChatGPT can create a travel itinerary for you if you give it a prompt. For example, I asked ChatGPT to create a 3-day itinerary for 3 adults, and it replied to me like this:

Claude AI Use Cases

Understanding A Complex Topic

Claude AI is preferably a good option if you want to understand a complex and hard topic in easy language. Claude AI helps you understand the topic by covering every detail. Moreover, it also uses relatable examples to make it easier for you to grasp a topic. Not only that, but it also flags incorrect information even when it is mentioned on public platforms. The AI tool corrects the wrong data or overly claimed data.

Software Development & Engineering

Claude AI can generate code. The AI tool can also create software and fix it whenever required. It can find out why something isn’t working (debugging) and optimize database queries. The AI tool can act as a junior developer. It can read a whole project (a “repo” or repository, which is the folder holding all of a program’s files), make changes across many files, and run tests to check its own work.

Moreover, Claude can clean up and reorganize code without making any changes to how it works/what it does. At the same time, Claude can also inspect the root cause if a website crashes.

Optimizing Resume/CV

You can upload your resume or CV to the AI tool and ask it to mark the red flags. In addition, Claude AI can write a professional summary by scanning your work experience, educational details, certificates, etc. It can identify the gaps according to the role you are applying for, such as what skills you are missing. By examining all of these, the AI tool can help you rewrite your resume/CV for a particular role. It can also change the layout, modernize the style, or convert/export the file.

Finding Jobs

There is an option for connectors where you can add job-hiring websites and ask Claude AI to find a job for you based on your resume or CV. The AI tool will exactly mention the role you should go forward for applying along with the link, which will redirect you to the employment website.

Limitations of Claude AI & ChatGPT

Robotic Writing

AI tools like Claude AI and ChatGPT are widely used to generate text, essays, summaries on a topic, and many more things. Simply give a prompt about what you want the text to be generated.  Suppose you want Claude or ChatGPT to create a blog or an article on Cloud providers. Both AI tools will create a blog, but it will appear robotic.

It won’t feel like a human has written it. When a human writes a blog, they usually explain something using vocabulary that is unusual; they explain a topic with some examples, they give their own opinion, and many more things, which is easy to read and at the same time is trustworthy. AI-generated articles or blogs are mostly hard to grasp.

Ads & Tiered Restrictions

If you have created an image using ChatGPT, you know that you can create a certain number of images for free for a certain time. There is a time limitation.  The same applies to uploading a file and asking for feedback or tailoring the document; it is free for a limited time. You have to wait sometimes for many hours to use the feature.

Context Drift

When you have a constant back-and-forth with the AI tools, it maintains the same context to some extent. After some time, you might have noticed that the AI slips from its position. It answers in a shorter form than before; it deviates from being technically accurate; it oversimplifies its responses.

No Scope For Latest News

ChatGPT and Claude AI tools can both provide you with answers or information that is present on the internet by structuring it for you. However, the AI tool falters if you want to check for the latest news and live scores related to sports. For example, I asked ChatGPT for IND vs NZ 1st T20I  live scores that started at 12:30 IST, but it responded to me like this:

At 2:09 PM IST, it showed me 0/0 scores. However, the match had begun way back at 12:30 PM IST.

Biased Results

If you are a regular user of both AI tools, then they both can provide you with biased feedback. For example, if you ask for feedback on your writing, they both can rate you 7.5/10. But the real story can be different. It is advisable to seek feedback, or rather constructive criticism, from a human. Humans can point out mistakes that AI tools might miss, and most importantly, AI tools will never point out your mistakes if you write a little robotically.
